Waiting to go live…

I’m writing this while my website still isn’t live.
The pages are built. The books are in place. The blog is ready. The logo is finished. The SEO is about as complete as it can be. Somewhere out there, computers are talking to each other, passing information across the internet, and I’m simply waiting for everything to catch up.
Oddly enough, I’m okay with that.
A few weeks ago, I wouldn’t have known what DNS meant. Cloudflare? Propagation? SEO? Meta descriptions? They were just words that belonged to someone else’s world.
Today they’re part of mine.
There were moments I was frustrated. I clicked the wrong things. I redesigned pages more times than I can count. I learned that the website and the app don’t always behave the same way. More than once I wondered if I’d gotten in over my head.
Then something changed.
The frustration slowly turned into understanding.
What felt impossible yesterday became familiar today. Every mistake taught me something I didn’t know five minutes earlier. Somewhere along the way, I stopped feeling like someone trying to build a website and started feeling like someone who actually could.
Technology has always had a way of quietly expanding my world.
Years ago, I don’t think I would have moved to Summerville if every trip meant unfolding a paper map and hoping I guessed correctly. GPS made unfamiliar roads feel possible.
This feels a little like that.
The tools available today don’t replace effort. They don’t replace creativity or patience. They simply make it possible for ordinary people to build things that once required entire teams of specialists.
I’m grateful for that.
As I sit here waiting for this website to go live, I realize the biggest thing I built wasn’t the website at all.
I built confidence.
I learned new skills I never expected to learn. I discovered that I’m still capable of figuring out unfamiliar things. I found satisfaction in solving problems instead of walking away from them.
That’s a gift I wasn’t expecting.
This reminds me of the day my first book was finally published.
It wasn’t just excitement because it existed.
It was the quiet realization that something which had lived only in my mind and heart had become real enough to reach someone else.
This website feels the same.
It’s more than pages and photographs. It’s a place where my books, my thoughts, and my conversations now have a home.
By the time you read this, the waiting will probably be over.
The website will be live.
But I’m glad I wrote this while I was still waiting, because sometimes the becoming deserves to be remembered just as much as the arrival.
After all, every story has value.
Sometimes the story is simply learning that you’re capable of building something you never imagined you could.
